Banished is wonderful and Ostriv is in the vein. There's no feature like removal tool in Banished (but there are far more things that Ostriv includes when Banished does not ;), but you can choose a farm, then 'Add field' (or fields) and place it wherever you want to have no trees. Well..besides Banished being finished and having full mod support, I would say the main difference is the more fleshed out system of farming and animal herding and that you don't have to build roads but your people "build" their own depending on how frequently the path is used. Even in alpha, Ostriv has surpassed Banished's circus act AI and implemented a working currency-based economy (complete with basic welfare system) and a farming system that's not only sensible and period-appropriate but has a fairly well implemented crop rotation system which is something the Banished developer struggled with for a long time before eventually throwing in the towel because he couldn't make it work. I wouldn't at all mind some kind of permanent trade deals with the other towns where we could contract for a certain amount of, say, salt each year in exchange for a certain amount of lime or sunflower oil or whatever. Ostriv is playable and fun already and is still very early in development. However what I find with Ostriv is that it's hard to manage the money, but I still like it, it's a fun game to play when you don't worry too much about the money and go into crippling debt. I drop in every few months and find something cool and better than before.

Of course 50x50 units is the limit for single area. I fell in love with Banished when it came out and clocked a couple hundreds hours on it.
