In Ostriv you have to send a messenger or wait for a messenger to arrive and then work out purchases and/or sales.
It looks interesting, but I wondered if you could provide me with a few reasons as to why I should play this game instead of Banished? Plus when you consider it was originally a one person project it's amazing how much detail has gone in to it. Banished development stopped after it was finished and mods made it more playable and give it longer life. share.
Banished is wonderful and Ostriv is in the vein. There's no feature like removal tool in Banished (but there are far more things that Ostriv includes when Banished does not ;), but you can choose a farm, then 'Add field' (or fields) and place it wherever you want to have no trees. Well..besides Banished being finished and having full mod support, I would say the main difference is the more fleshed out system of farming and animal herding and that you don't have to build roads but your people "build" their own depending on how frequently the path is used. I know that the creator of Banished is essentially done with it and moved on to other things, but this (at this point, based on screen shots and the basic descriptions of things) looks a lot like what I'd expect a Banished 2 might look like if it ever existed. 1 comment. Even in alpha, Ostriv has surpassed Banished's circus act AI and implemented a working currency-based economy (complete with basic welfare system) and a farming system that's not only sensible and period-appropriate but has a fairly well implemented crop rotation system which is something the Banished developer struggled with for a long time before eventually throwing in the towel because he couldn't make it work. I wouldn't at all mind some kind of permanent trade deals with the other towns where we could contract for a certain amount of, say, salt each year in exchange for a certain amount of lime or sunflower oil or whatever. So far the attention to detail in the development cycle is higher than I found with Banished. I cant seem to grow past 40 people.

Ostriv is playable and fun already and is still very early in development. However what I find with Ostriv is that it's hard to manage the money, but I still like it, it's a fun game to play when you don't worry too much about the money and go into crippling debt. I drop in every few months and find something cool and better than before.
Of course 50x50 units is the limit for single area. I fell in love with Banished when it came out and clocked a couple hundreds hours on it.
If it's two years or four years or whatever before we have a final game, that's just time I'll become fonder of this game and watching it grow. What's the difference between this and Banished? Ostriv is in Early Access, Banished is a finished game w/ mods. I agree 100% Forest Village is a much better game overall, but I think that Ostriv, if they can keep improving it has some real potential as well.
